GRIPS alumnus Mr. Le Minh Hung elected as new Prime Minister of Viet Nam

We are pleased to announce that on April 7, 2026, GRIPS alumnus Mr. Le Minh Hun was elected as new Prime Minister of Viet Nam for the 2026-2031 term at the first session of the 16th National Assembly on April 7, 2026.

In 1997, after graduating inform the IMF-sponsored Transition Economy Program at the Graduate School for Policy Science (GRIPS’ predecessor)

He is expected to play an increasingly important role in the future.


We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Le Minh Hung, a graduate of the Graduate School of Policy Science, Saitama University (GSPS),*

During his time at GSPS, Mr. Hung pursued policy studies with great dedication, particularly in the field of transition economies. Since graduation, he has held a number of key positions at institutions including the State Bank of Viet Nam, where he has played an important role in international finance and international cooperation. His appointment as Prime Minister, a major milestone in his distinguished career, is a source of great pride for our university, and a testament to the meaningful contribution to academic education and research outcomes in the international community.

We sincerely hope that the knowledge and global perspective Mr. Hung acquired at GSPS will enable him to continue to contribute to Viet Nam’s policy governance and national development, while also deepening mutual understanding and cooperation between Japan and Viet Nam.

We wish Prime Minister Hung every success in his future endeavors, and sincerely hope for the continued advancement of friendly relations between our two countries.
